Storyteller
As a storyteller, my work seeks to understand how we connect and relate to each other. My intention is to help others find their voices and discover their universe of possibilities.
One of my greatest joys as a journalist is instilling the love of storytelling and words in others. In 2015, I volunteered with the Sjors Foundation in Indonesia, which works with underprivileged children, to teach them about journalism.
During a project with UNESCO Burundi, I helped train and facilitate a group of local youths to create an in-house documentary on land rights issues faced by returning refugees from Tanzania.
My work as a journalist takes me far and wide, from writing a travel column to exploring the inner worlds of global creators and social changemakers. In 2016, I interviewed designer Carmen Rion in Mexico City for The Culture Trip.
Strategist
What communications strategy comes down to listening to understand the other person. My journey into strategy came from a journalism background where you have to listen in order to write the story. This led to a natural progression of studying human centered design which starts with understanding and relating to the human when designing solutions or telling stories.
My graduate degree was in human centered design. The final deliverable was a 6-month project to create an app which aims to encourage the interest of middle school girls in science and maths. My team got to work with some stellar young women interested in the STEM fields.
As a content strategist for the Bloomberg Philanthropies innovation team, I lead the development of Austin's Homelessness Advisory Committee. It was a remarkable experience with incredible people.
Part of strategy is the continual development and improvement of it. In 2017, I had the opportunity to learn from and collaborate with colleagues from the nonprofit sectors, including the World Bank and the Packard Foundation.
Consultant
As a consultant, I have been honoured to work with wonderful artists, visionaries and changemakers to design strategies and share stories in ways that resonate with their audience. Sectors I Work With Include Arts & Culture, Agriculture, Education, Fine Arts, Food & Beverage, Infrastructure, Media: Print, Film & TV, Nonprofits, Social Impact companies, and Startups.
In summer 2018, I was a part of a global initiative called OF/BY/FOR ALL. Started by Nina Simon of the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History, its goal is to help create more inclusive arts and civic organizations globally.
For three years, I consulted for Endeavor, an organization supporting and guiding high impact entrepreneurs to transform economies. I helped launch the first Asia office and shape the brand and media strategies for the organization and its clients.
A highlight of my global projects was my time with SocialTIC, a nonprofit that empowers change-makers though the strategic use of ICTs, open data and digital narratives in Latin America. I was engaged to design the English-language brand message for the organization.
